Prada has officially stepped into the world of dining in Asia with the launch of Mi Shang, its very first standalone restaurant in the region. Located inside the beautifully restored Rong Zhai mansion in Shanghai, Mi Shang brings together food, design, and culture in a way that feels both luxurious and inviting. Spread across four uniquely styled rooms, it offers everything from all-day breakfast and afternoon tea to fine dining and delicious desserts.

The name Mi Shang comes from a Chinese phrase meaning “to be obsessed with,” which perfectly describes the immersive atmosphere the space creates. This is Prada’s second collaboration with legendary filmmaker Wong Kar-wai, who shaped the entire concept and design. He drew inspiration from the philatelic idea of tête-bêche, a pair of stamps placed upside down next to each other. This unusual, mirrored arrangement symbolizes the dialogue between two cultures, Milan and Shanghai, brought together through reflection, connection, and contrast.

Wong Kar-wai’s vision is clear throughout Mi Shang. Every detail of the interior design feels like a cinematic scene, with elements that recall his films In the Mood for Love and Happy Together. Think mirrored walls, soft lighting, and contrasting textures that balance tradition with modernity. His design combines Chinese and Italian influences without blending them into one, it allows both to shine while complementing each other. It’s a thoughtful mix of Prada’s timeless elegance and Rong Zhai’s historic charm.

Located on the second floor of Rong Zhai, Mi Shang is more than just a café or a restaurant—it’s a complete experience. It offers all-day service, from coffee and breakfast to lunch, tea, dinner, and cocktails. The menu is led by Michelin-starred chef Lorenzo Lunghi and master pastry chef Diego Crosara, who have created dishes that fuse Italian and Chinese flavors in new and unexpected ways. Picture ravioli filled with dumpling ingredients, pak choi served with creamy cacio e pepe sauce, and mushrooms topped with zesty green salsa. It’s a creative and elegant take on two culinary worlds coming together.

Each room inside Mi Shang adds its own personality to the space. The Dining Room is romantic and dreamy, with pink and pistachio booths, mirrored walls, and vintage Murano lamps. The Library offers a quieter space for reading or relaxing, filled with books on Chinese craftsmanship and Italian design. The Caffè features a beautifully restored wooden bar and old-school glamour, capturing the energy of 1930s Shanghai. Tucked away in The Caffè is The Study, a cozy private dining area with Qing dynasty ceramics and vintage wallpaper. And for outdoor dining, The Terrace in the mansion’s backyard is a peaceful escape, with 1930s Italian bamboo furniture surrounded by greenery.

Don’t miss The Pastry Shop, where classic Italian desserts get a playful upgrade. Inspired by Prada’s boutique displays, it showcases everything from indulgent Pasticcini and Tiramisù to swan-shaped Bignè Chantilly, along with sustainable treats like jelly candies and coated nuts in eco-friendly packaging.

Mi Shang is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., offering a stylish and thoughtful space where food, film, fashion, and history meet. Whether you’re stopping by for a quiet coffee or planning a special dinner, every visit feels like stepping into a beautifully curated story.
