Off the Runway: These Fashion Trends Are Set to Rule 2025

New year, new closet; or perhaps drag out the old ones? That is exactly what 2025 fashion will be all about. The old-money aesthetic and corp-core will no longer be in vogue. Instead, 2025 will focus on revisiting fashion archives to rediscover classic favourites. Baggy jeans will take a backseat to skinny jeans, and dark, lifeless tones will no longer have a place in wardrobes. This year's colour palette will feature lively pastels, particularly greens, pinks, and yellows. Let's look at some of the major fashion trends that will shape 2025.

Back With The Polka Dots

A fashion staple since the 1920s, polka dots are going to be big in 2025. This popular print gained traction in the 1960s, especially after being worn by Princess Diana. It experienced a revival in the early 2010s and is now once again reemerging in the fashion world. For a stylish choice, consider pairing polka dots with jeans, or opt for a summer dress featuring this classic pattern.

The Skinny Revival

The debate over whether skinny jeans are in or out, comes to a close this year, as the millennial favourite pants make a strong comeback. The resurgence of skinny jeans began in 2024, with designers like Miu Miu, Versace, Prada, and Louis Vuitton reintroducing this silhouette on their autumn/winter runways. These versatile pants, when styled with oversized clothing, create the best looks.

It's the Year of Big Belts

When it comes to accessories this year, big belts are making a major comeback. These statement pieces can elevate a simple outfit and provide a chic styling option. Seen on the runways of J.W. Anderson, Prada, Miu Miu, and others, big belts are set to dominate fashion.

Colour Me Pastel

Soft, pretty, and pastel shades are expected to be in high demand in 2025. Seen on the runways of Carolina Herrera, Mame Kurogouchi, Chloe, Balenciaga, and Chanel, three colours that stood out were butter yellow, greige (a mix of grey and beige), blush pink, and pistachio green. These colours are easy to style and complement nearly every skin tone.

The Year Of Zebra

Move over leopard prints, zebra prints are posing to be the biggest fashion trend for 2025. Subtle, chic, and elegant, zebra prints offer a refined alternative to some bolder animal prints (such as tiger stripes). Fresh from the Spring/Summer 2025 collections of Schiaparelli, Gucci, and Caro Editions, zebra prints maintain a playful charm without being tacky. For those who aren't experimental enough to don the print in clothing, consider incorporating accessories like bags and hats in this print to add a unique touch to your everyday outfits.

Boho Chic Revival

The fashion fever in the last few years was characterized by the old-money aesthetic and beige tones. However, bringing a much-needed change to the fashion landscape is the arrival of Boho Chic. On the Fall/ Winter 2025 runway, Chloe gave a major nod to the trend proving it to be an antithesis to the old money trend, bringing vibrant colours, various textures, and an array of cuts. Think ruffles, frilly outfits, lace, and more. Boho Chic also continues the trend of ultra-feminine fashion that has remained prominent since 2023.

Cinched Waist? Yes Please

While flares dominated 2024, skinny fits are back as a fashion trend in 2025. Cinched waists saw a rise last year, and their popularity will continue to gain prominence this year. Everything skinny is seeing a revival now, think styles that emphasize a well-defined waist are in vogue, Cinched waist tops, shirts, and jackets. These styles are not only visually appealing but also offer an effortless way to elevate everyday styling.

Bubble hems

Hate it or love it, bubble hems are here to stay, and fashion makers seem to embrace this notion. We've spotted bubble hems in the Spring/Summer 2025 collections of leading fashion brands. This trend, reminiscent of styles from the 1980s and early 2000s, has been reimagined by several designers, offering fresh takes on the classic bubble hem. When styled well, these bubble hem skirts and dresses can help you stand out in a crowd for all the right reasons.
