From childhood, I’ve always seen Oberoi hotels as my top choice in India. Whether it’s the grand and opulent Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur, with its lakeside palace-inspired design; the regal Oberoi Rajvilas in Jaipur, nestled amid lush gardens and Mughal architecture; the tranquil Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort & Spa in Chandigarh, set against the serene Siswan Forest; the enchanting Vanyavilas Wildlife Resort in Ranthambhore, where luxury meets wilderness at the edge of a tiger reserve; the iconic Oberoi Amarvilas in Agra, with every room offering a breathtaking view of the Taj Mahal; or the charming Wildflower Hall in Shimla, a serene retreat amidst the Himalayas. I often wondered when this exceptional hotel chain would expand to a few of my favourite cities, like London, New York, or Portofino. After a long wait, the day has finally come and I was jumping with joy when I read the news that Oberoi Hotels & Resorts is debuting in London’s most upmarket area Mayfair.
When it comes to hospitality, nothing beats Indian hospitality. Among the multiple hotel chains, The Oberoi Group stands at the forefront of this experience. When it comes to luxury, The Oberoi Group has always set the standard. At every property, the staff go above and beyond to ensure your stay is nothing short of extraordinary. It’s the attention to detail, the personal touches, and the genuine care that make the difference. The philosophy of the brand is simple but profound: guests come first. Whether it's remembering your preferences or creating unique experiences, the Oberoi team makes you feel valued in a way that’s hard to match. While international travellers always loved their experiences in India at an Oberoi property, it was high time that the hotel made its presence felt internationally.
Beginning with openings in Indonesia and Egypt during the 1970s and 1990s, The Oberoi Group continued its growth by entering Morocco in 2019 with The Oberoi Marrakech, marking its presence as a luxury hospitality leader. But the brand’s latest move is a bold step into the heart of London. The Oberoi Group is bringing its signature elegance and Indian luxury to Grosvenor’s South Molton in the prestigious Mayfair district. And truth be told, I couldn't imagine any other Indian luxury hospitality group doing justice and making the country proud. Mr. Vikram Oberoi, Managing Director and CEO of The Oberoi Group, expressed his excitement about this milestone, saying, “We are delighted to bring the legendary Oberoi hospitality to London, especially in such an iconic location as Mayfair. This project marks a pivotal moment for our brand’s global journey. The Oberoi, Mayfair, will embody the very essence of luxury, offering guests an intimate retreat in the heart of Mayfair with the dynamic spirit of the city.”
Located on a prominent corner at 40-46 Brook Street, the hotel is poised to become Mayfair’s premier luxury boutique hotel whilst competing with some of the most renowned internationally acclaimed hotel chains. It will be a stunning showcase of Oberoi’s iconic design, world-class service, and unwavering attention to detail. Housed in a beautifully restored 33,000 sq. ft building, this hotel will be a cornerstone of the South Molton development.
This ambitious project will also see a joint venture between Grosvenor and Mitsui Fudosan UK, delivering two state-of-the-art office buildings in one of London’s most coveted areas. The development, which will span 267,000 sq. ft, promises to bring significant economic impact, including 1,000 permanent jobs once completed. Construction is already underway, with the final phases scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. Mr. Arjun Oberoi, Executive Chairman of The Oberoi Group, added, “Our partnership with Grosvenor marks an important milestone in our international growth. London has always been a key market for our guests. We are excited to bring our distinctive hospitality experience to the heart of London. The Oberoi, Mayfair, will not only be a celebration of our brand at a prime location but also an opportunity to showcase our service excellence."
While the official opening date of The Oberoi, Mayfair is yet to be confirmed, the news itself is enough to spark excitement. The arrival of this iconic brand in London promises to be a game-changer, and I’m looking forward to seeing The Oberoi set new standards in the city’s luxury hospitality scene. The anticipation is high, and it’s clear that the wait will be well worth it.
