Whether you’re a local or a visitor, a day here promises a refreshing taste of the California coast. Here’s the ultimate guide to an adventure-filled day in this neighbourhood. Save this itinerary for your next getaway in Southern California!
Begin Your Morning With a Sail on Naos Yachts
There’s nothing quite like starting your day by the water, feeling the cool morning breeze, and gazing over a skyline of gently bobbing sails and masts. For a unique experience, head to Naos Yachts and set sail for an exhilarating morning on the Pacific. Begin your Marina del Rey adventure with a stroll down its iconic harbour – home to about 5,000 boats of all sizes. Situated between Venice Beach and Playa del Rey, this neighbourhood is a haven for boating enthusiasts. In the marina, make your way to Naos Yachts for an exhilarating sailing experience. With a fleet of high-end yachts and sailboats, Naos Yachts enables people to explore the awe-inspiring coastline of Southern California and create unforgettable memories on the water.
I sailed with Naos Yachts on a new 35’ Beneteau Oceanis vessel called ‘Bellini’. As we sailed through the calm waters of the Pacific, we were encompassed by breathtaking coastal views, from the iconic Santa Monica Pier to the verdant hills of Palos Verdes. Along the way, we were greeted by playful sea lions basking on the shore and groups of young sailors preparing for a regatta, which only added to the lively scene. If you’re keen on more adventure, the harbour also offers kayak and paddleboard rentals, from spots such as Pro SUP Shop, located at Mother’s Beach. After sailing, I checked out Fisherman’s Village, which is inspired by a New England seaport and fishing town. This spot houses several restaurants, the Marina del Rey Historical Society’s exhibition space, and local boutiques.
Brunch at Cast & Plow
After a morning on the water, it’s time to refuel. I indulged in a delightful, farm-to-table brunch at Cast & Plow, the elegant restaurant nestled within The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey. This eatery’s expert culinary team crafts contemporary California cuisine using the freshest local ingredients. Their brunch menu includes classic breakfast offerings and unique, health-focused dishes. As you dine, you can’t help but be enchanted by the spectacular waterfront vistas of the marina, creating the perfect setting for a leisurely brunch experience. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and the Eggs Benedict along with a freshly squeezed juice and an indulgent dessert. The food was simple, yet packed with flavour and hit the spot!
Unwind at the Sisley Spa
With a full stomach and a calm mind, it’s the perfect time for some pampering. Spend time at leisure in The Ritz Carlton’s outdoor pool or jacuzzi overlooking the marina. But if you’re in the mood for a true treat, book a session at the renowned Sisley Spa within the hotel. Known for its personalised treatments, Sisley Spa aims to restore balance and rejuvenate both mind and body. I opted for a 60-minute full-body massage, which included Swedish and deep tissue techniques. The massage was very relaxing and was just what I needed after a busy day.
Retail Therapy at Waterside
Feeling refreshed, take a leisurely stroll over to Waterside, Marina del Rey’s stylish outdoor shopping destination. A chic outdoor mall home to restaurants, trendy clothing stores, and luxury boutiques. Waterside also has open-air pavilions with lounge chairs and tables where you can take a break if needed. Waterside is worth checking out as it is home to local hidden gems as well as globally well-known retail shops.
Dinner at Uovo
As evening approaches, head across the road to Uovo, Marina del Rey – a local favourite famed for its fresh, handmade pasta that’s flown in daily from their kitchen in Bologna, Italy. Uovo’s chefs craft authentic pasta dishes based on secret family recipes. The restaurant’s most popular pasta offerings are the Crema di Parmigiano, Lasagna, Cacio e Pepe, Tagliatelle ai Carciofi, and Ravioli di Ricotta. End your Marina del Rey day with the perfect sweet treat—Uovo’s delectable Tiramisu.
Marina del Rey’s serene harbour, warm hospitality, and scenic beauty are bound to leave you feeling relaxed and renewed. On your next visit to Los Angeles, carve out a day to experience this lovely neighbourhood—a true oasis where you can embrace both tranquillity and excitement. Whether it’s the thrill of sailing, the joy of a perfect brunch, or the quiet moments by the water, Marina del Rey offers a memorable slice of California’s coastal allure.
