Luxury Highlights: From Louis Vuitton's Milan Flagship to Fairmont Landing in Mumbai

This week has been nothing short of thrilling in the world of luxury. From the grand reopening of Louis Vuitton’s flagship in Milan to exciting developments in India’s skyline, there’s been no shortage of noteworthy moments. Here is all that made it to this week's luxury highlights.

Jaipur Rugs x Richard Hutten At Milan Design Week

This week, all eyes are on Milan Design Week, and Jaipur Rugs is turning heads with a fun and vibrant new launch. Known for its luxurious hand-knotted rugs, the brand has unveiled Playing with Tradition, a playful new collection created with Dutch designer Richard Hutten. True to its name, the collection mixes the rich heritage of rug-making with a modern twist. Inspired by India’s Holi festival, these rugs are full of colour, joy and unexpected details, like banana motifs and nods to old silent films. It’s a fresh, fun take on something timeless.

The rugs are made with natural wool and carry all the hallmarks of traditional craftsmanship, but with a bold, artistic edge. Alongside this, Jaipur Rugs is also showing off three other exciting collaborations—with Tatiana de Nicolay, Peter D’Ascoli, and VIMAR 1991

Laila Khan Furniturewalla returns with Untamed Heart after 18 years

After almost two decades away from the spotlight, artist Laila Khan Furniturewalla is back. Her new solo exhibition, Untamed Heart, opens at Gallery Art & Soul in Mumbai from April 16 to April 22, 2025, and it’s far more than just a comeback. It’s a heartfelt return to her roots, a tribute to her parents Sundri and Feroz Khan, and a powerful reflection of the artist she’s become over the years. In Untamed Heart, she brings all of that to the surface using raw, earthy materials—think sand, gold leaf, copper, and pigment—to create layered, abstract works that feel almost sculptural. The centre of this series is the spiritual energy of Lord Ganesh, whose presence adds a quiet strength and grounding force to the collection.

Speaking about the show, Laila calls it the most personal work she’s ever shared. "This body of work is a culmination of my artistic journey and a search for the mystical and the divine—without labels or definitions," she says. If you’re in Mumbai, this is one show you won’t want to miss.

Louis Vuitton has reopened its flagship on Via Monte Napoleone in Milan

After three years of transformation, Louis Vuitton has reopened its flagship on Via Monte Napoleone in Milan, unveiling a new chapter inside the beautifully restored Palazzo Taverna. The space features immersive areas filled with contemporary art, a floor dedicated to Louis Vuitton’s Home Collections, and, for the first time in Italy, two exclusive dining experiences: Da Vittorio Café Louis Vuitton and DaV by Da Vittorio Louis Vuitton Restaurant, in collaboration with the prestigious Da Vittorio group.

Designed by architect Peter Marino, the transformation blends Milanese heritage with Louis Vuitton’s signature elegance. The neo-classical façade, with its ionic columns by Ferdinando Albertolli, embodies Milan’s timeless charm, while the interior showcases noble materials from Lombardy workshops, with a staircase inspired by Villa Necchi Campiglio and a sun-drenched courtyard beneath a stunning glass skylight.

The space also introduces an exciting culinary experience, with the opening of the Da Vittorio Café Louis Vuitton and DaV by Da Vittorio Louis Vuitton Restaurant. In partnership with the Michelin-starred Da Vittorio group, these new dining destinations combine simplicity and refinement. The café offers "luxury snacking," featuring reimagined, generously-portioned dishes, while the restaurant offers Italian classics with a modern twist, like osso buco served with saffron risotto shaped like the Louis Vuitton Monogram flower.

The store also houses a collection of contemporary art, celebrating Milan’s creative spirit, alongside a dedicated design floor, including the Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades collection, which includes travel-inspired pieces created with renowned designers; the Signature Collection featuring furniture and lighting, home décor objects and linens; table art; and games like mini table football and Mahjong.

The flagship also boasts an impressive courtyard bar, making it the second Louis Vuitton store in Italy with such an amenity, following the store in Taormina, Sicily.

Louis Vuitton reveals its new Home Collections at Milan Design Week

Louis Vuitton is making a bold entrance into the world of home design at this year’s Milan Design Week, and it’s doing so in serious style. Set inside the grand Palazzo Serbelloni, the brand is unveiling its first-ever Home Collections, alongside its much-loved Objets Nomades. It’s all about blending luxury with everyday living — think of it as Louis Vuitton’s vision of how we should be living at home.

The new collections include everything from statement furniture and lighting to home textiles, tableware and even quirky games. The star of the show? The Malle Vaisselier – a stunning trunk that opens to reveal an entire tableware set, turning storage into art.

Designers like Fortunato Depero, Charlotte Perriand, and Cristián Mohaded have brought their flair to the mix, with pieces that are colourful, playful, and rich in craftsmanship. There’s a jungle-inspired dining table, a football table like no other, and even a pinball machine by the Campana brothers that nods to Pharrell Williams’ world.Every room in the Palazzo has been transformed into a different world – from cosy lounges and vibrant dining areas to calm textile rooms and design-forward boudoirs. It’s a full-on lifestyle statement, not just a showroom. And just when you think it’s over, step outside to see La Maison au Bord de l’Eau, Charlotte Perriand’s dreamy seaside home design brought back to life – a quiet, stylish goodbye to a truly immersive design experience.
