Bringing in some rose-quartz warmth

Gem Therapy, Rose Quartz Cutlery

Good plating makes all the difference to a party. Whether you're setting up a grazing table or crafting a butter board, go with gemstone platters, says Sonali Dhandia Jain, founder of Gem Therapy. She explains, “These are perfect as they double as decor, elevating not only your spread but also the energy in the room.  The organic, gold-lined edges lend an artistic character, making each platter a unique work of art. Super versatile, they beautifully display appetizers, desserts, or curated charcuterie spreads and can also make for striking centrepieces when paired with accessories.” If you are wondering which to buy, she suggests, “Incorporate a stone like Rose Quartz in the platters, which stands for love and compassion. These fluid, organic pieces, with their gentle and soothing energy, not only function as practical accents but also bring a sense of positivity, harmony, and warmth to your table and celebrations. Handcrafted by skilled artisans with gold-plated edges, each platter can be used to display appetizers, desserts or a curated charcuterie spread.”

Royal colours, metallic accents

A beautifully arranged table setting is the essence of Diwali celebrations, where hosting plays a crucial role, believes Meghna Bhimrajka, Founder of Casa Gusto. She says, “Gathering loved ones around the dining table embodies the spirit of this festival. Begin by selecting a style that reflects your event—whether a sleek, contemporary look for a lively cards party or a traditional setup for a cosy family dinner.” Meghna’s plans include having the right hues and a pretty centrepiece like floral-themed candle stands. She suggests, “Choose a vibrant tablecloth or runner in rich shades like maroon, gold, or royal blue. Incorporating metallic accents like gold or brass cutlery can enhance the festive mood. Elegant dinnerware with intricate patterns can elevate the look, while brass options are perfect for adding warmth and vibrancy.”

With centrepieces being crucial to the overall design, she adds, “For a traditional feel, use decorative diyas, floating candles in brass bowls, or a blend of marigold flowers and greenery. For a more modern approach, fresh maroon and red flowers paired with tall candles create a refined aesthetic. Finish the setup with a mix of candles and fairy lights to create a warm, inviting glow that embodies the joy of Diwali.”

Indian motifs spell elegance

India Circus

Designer Krsnaa Mehta of India Circus shares his take. He says, "Go with motifs inspired by nature and contemporary India. Floral motifs as well as those of birds, bring a cheerfulness to the celebrations. Geometric motifs are traditional, but with a modern twist – everything is inspired by India and is contemporary." He continues, "The addition of gold foil work into trays and tissue boxes can elevate this experience further. The shimmer of gold foils complements the motifs, making the juxtaposition into a timeless feature."

DIY fun: Floating diyas, fuchsia nets

Diwali is all about light and there are ways to bring that onto the table. Hansa Sinha, decor blogger, shares, “I like to play with colours and natural elements when it comes to Diwali decor. Fairy lights and floating diyas can instantly lift the feel of the home, so place them on your table." Sinha suggests using flowers and items from around your home to create a beautiful centrepiece. " I have used kettles and brass urans from my kitchen on the table. With a bit of creativity, you can surround plates with flowers, silver serving bowls, and crystal goblets. To add a festive touch, drape bright fuchsia pink and yellow nets around the trays. For lighting, place large diyas down the centre of the table to illuminate the space, if it's an outdoor setup, opt for pillar candles instead. Another idea is to choose a thick mirror work or patchwork fabric as a tablecloth, which adds a lovely traditional feel to the celebrations."

Crystal candelabras for an heirloom feel

Karishma Sakhrani, Style Curator

Karishma Sakhrani, a style curator who’s gearing up for her annual Diwali gathering, shares a few good ideas for your festive celebrations to stand out. Sakhrani is of the opinion that candles are a must, and add a warm and festive glow, while strategically placed mirrors reflect the light to create an ethereal ambience. She elaborates, “For a Diwali party at home, I love to create an inviting and vibrant atmosphere with my table decor. I use fresh flowers in rich hues like marigolds and roses, spreading their natural beauty across the table. You can also add stunning crystal candelabras, paired beautifully with porcelain dining ware." AEnhancing the festive mood, she further recommends incorporating various accents like brass bowls, glass votives, and colourful textiles, which introduce a modern twist to traditional charm. "It’s all about blending warmth and elegance to make the setting feel special for the celebration.”

Fusing vintage with modern

Tania Bhatia Shringi, Founder & Principal Architect of Studio Novoforma, shares insights on fusing vintage elements with modern design for a sophisticated festive table setting. She says, “Fusing vintage elements within a modern design scheme requires a subtle balance of both styles to complement one another."She suggests choosing a few standout vintage pieces, such as antique chairs, and pairing them with a sleek, neutral wooden table against a simple, uncluttered backdrop. "Retro-style salad plates, bowls, or vintage vases with fresh flowers can also provide a subtle contrast to modern furniture while maintaining elegance in a minimalist setting."

Tania adds that modern design’s clean lines create the ideal backdrop for vintage elements to shine. "Vintage lighting, especially layered lighting, can further enhance the table setting, adding warmth and depth to the atmosphere." To conclude she says, “Each vintage piece brings its own story and creates a refined blend of history, character, and understated luxury when integrated into modern design. It’s important to strike the right balance, allowing the vintage pieces to speak for themselves.”
