A Goan Retreat At The Westin Goa

Goa, a city that never sleeps, is the party capital of India, and a destination steeped in luxurious resorts. Nestled amidst the vibrant energy of Anjuna in North Goa, The Westin Goa stands as a serene retreat in the middle of the city's bustling atmosphere. Renowned as the party capital of India, Goa's allure extends beyond its lively nightlife to encompass luxurious resorts, and The Westin Goa proudly upholds this tradition. Situated in close proximity to Anjuna's vibrant nightlife, sun-drenched Arabian Sea beaches, and lush green hills, this hotel offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the essence of susegad, Goa's cherished concept of relaxed contentment.

Boasting an earthy vibe with breezy architecture amid a green canopy, you are instantly transported to a tranquil world as you step into the lobby. Inspired by the art of savouring life's simple pleasures, the three-year-old property champions interiors that bring outdoors indoors;  high ceilings, adorned with earthy colour tones, coupled with fans gently whirring overhead, and an open lobby that lacks walls rather than wooden shelves to create smaller space.  Blending nature seamlessly into its design, the property evokes a sense of openness and tranquility. The focal point of the lobby is the stunning Lotus Pond.

At the front end of the lobby sits a major architectural attraction, The Lotus Pond – a lounging sofa surrounded by water on three sides. Overlooking the lotus pond is a direct view of the beautifully constructed two-storey poolside bar, Drift. Set amidst red brick structures juxtaposed against the backdrop of swaying palm trees and azure skies, one finds a haven of relaxation and luxury. The red brick structures add a dash of colour against the green palm trees, blue sky and the fish pond. Illuminating the space are bay windows, wide arch seating areas and wooden shelves that give the feeling of openness. And when the sun rises, it paints a golden canvas overlooking the poolside. A walk along the path to Drift is especially soothing as the pond surrounds you on one side and the electric blue hue of the poolside lounge beds, and blue tiles make the water reflect. Capturing the bounty of nature's beauty in a glimpse, it is a sanctuary for relaxation and luxury. Enveloping guests in a holistic experience is the warm front desk staff who greet you with a welcome drink, be it a mocktail or simply a beer… because when in Goa, time never stands still. With a gaming room, a coffee shop, two banquet halls, a tranquil poolside and a kid's room, gym and spa, the property is a one-stop-shop for a holiday where all you need to do is sit back and unwind.

Luxurious Living

Spread across two wings connected by a walk away on the inside and the lotus pond and pool outdoors, each exudes modern elegance and comfort. From family studios to presidential suites, every accommodation option promises a serene retreat. Checking into the room, was a seamless process and the 117-room property has a family studio, presidential suite, and deluxe rooms.

And the best room? The rooms with direct access to the pool, a true haven of peace and calm. Yes, you can walk out to your patio and simply dive into the pool. While you may not be at an overvilla in the Maldives, the breathtaking view from the room and the ease of access to water surely makes it feel like a luxury. Modern amenities, a muted colour palette, and top-of-the-line interiors at The Westin Goa promise a comfortable and enriching stay. However, a key highlight within the architecture of the room was the state-of-the-art structural chandelier which worked like a piece of art. Laying back in bed and overlooking such a wonderfully pretty light simply filled my art with joy.

And what better than a destination wedding in the midst of such a serene setting?

Dining Experiences

Perhaps, an experience in Goa is incomplete without exquisite cocktails and mouthwater food. The culinary offerings at The Westin Goa are a testament to the region's rich flavours and vibrant culture and guests are treated to a gastronomic journey like no other. At the property, you will find four top-of-the-line dining experiences, Drift, the pool bar bar, The Market, a 24/7 restaurant that serves a lavish buffet for all meals, Thyme and Ash for a unique Hot Pot experience and a terrace with pristine views of sunset and Anjuna Coffee Co. for freshly brewed cup of caffeine or simply some delicious baked goods.

A lavish buffet spread for breakfast at The Market ranging from fresh fruits to south Indian food, filter coffee, and a healthy bowl of yogurt spread kick starts the day. You can enjoy the meal by sitting indoors or on the outdoor patio overlooking the poolside and Drift. However, if you feel like having a laid back, relaxed holiday, why not order breakfast in bed? The team and Chef Abhitoush presented us with the most extravagant breakfast in bed that lit up my mood. I savoured the delicious spread of avocado on toast, homemade muesli, smoothies, croissants, masala omelette and fresh juices out on my patio while the sun shined bright. And on Sunday don't miss the poolside brunch served outdoors!

Moving on to the next meal of the day at The Market, the Goan Thali experience is one that you simply cannot miss. Vegetarians have a delicious thali with dal, paneer, patta gobi and mixed veggies and the best part? Without the paneer, it's a vegan thali! But if you're a non-vegetarian, you're in for a delicious seafood feast with chonka fish in two preparations, masala curry squid and delicious barbecue prawns. Both the thalis come with a coconut milk-based lassi with masala that tastes similar to hajmola! And while I was stuffed after indulging in this feast, I couldn't help myself from diving into a delicious dessert and some jasmine tea. The Malpua filled with boondi and topped with rabri for me was an absolute winner. But if you wish to grab coffee after the meal, make your way to Anjuna Coffee and pick from a range of blends; my favourite was the hazelnut coffee and the dessert display made me want to binge on every item.

Moving to the nightlife which is a major attraction in Goa post 7 pm you can enjoy a movie under the stars on the terrace of Thyme and Ash, or simply make your way to the rooftop of the poolside bar, Drift. A highly recommended and lively spot to get a feel of Goa's night, at Drift, don't forget to try the cocktails like the Paloma 2.0 whipped up by Sahil Chettri, the black pepper chicken and of course some butter garlic prawns if you love your seafood. You can sit at the bar on the ground floor that overlooks the lotus pond and the lobby or if you wish to catch a glimpse of the sunrise, the rooftop deck is just what you need. For a more unique experience at Drift opt for the in-water dining experience, Fresh Off The Boat every Saturday and Sunday. Dine in the middle of the water for the perfect date night set-up.

For a more toned-down fine dining experience, Thyme and Ash offers Goa's first Hot Pot experience. A very international concept was brought to the city. What is it? Chef Gautam sets up a live cooking station for you, where the food is cooked in a hot pot right on your table. Pick from a range of four broths ( I highly recommend the schezuwan), your preferred protein, rice, soba noodles, meats and vegetables from the beautifully displayed ingredients. It almost looks too colour and pretty. This for me, was an experience like no other; it was wholesome, rich, healthy, comforting and honest, something very different that you cannot find anywhere else in Goa.

Spa and Wellness

The Westin is committed to the concept of wellness and The Westin Goa champions the basic principle of the brand from food to experiences. At The Westin Goa, wellness takes centre stage, with an array of amenities dedicated to rejuvenating the mind, body, and soul. An expansive pool, the Heavenly Spa and the well-equipped gym are some of the pillars of wellness.

The Heavenly Spa offers a sanctuary of tranquility, where guests can indulge in a range of rejuvenating treatments. For a day of tranquility, I opted for a Swedish massage at the spa, as opposed to the contemporary hustle-bustle of the lobby with lively music, stepping into the space you feel a sense of calm. Captivating all your senses, you enter the space with vintage wooden carved doors reminiscent of havelis in Rajasthan, a soothing colour palette instant evokes a sense of peace and the subtle music and fragrance add a sense of calm. The serene ambiance, characterized by vintage wooden doors and soothing colour palettes, sets the stage for a truly immersive wellness experience. Before entering the therapy room, my masseuse asked me to pour all my negative stressful thoughts into a basket and then begin my relaxation. While it may leave you bewildered, it works wonders. Post my spa, the steam room was ready for me and steam post the spa helps relax your muscles further. After the spa session, I felt calm, composed and so rejuvenated.

With the staff that was so hospitable, every experience at The Westin Goa makes you want to come back. The open space and lush green expanse elevate your spirits, while the walkway on the first floor connecting the two wings at The Westin Goa has tropical wallpaper and the use of ropes on the wall adding a soothing ambience.
