It can rightly be said that the future is now. This season is all about wearing metallics and pulling off the sci-fi trend in style. The futuristic, high-shine ensembles have been spotted on the runway starting with the Chanel spaceship show in 2017. The high-shine ensembles graced the Fall/Winter runway of various designers including Paco Rabanne, Saint Laurent, Loewe, Maison Margiela, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Chanel, Miu Miu, Michael Kors and Dolce & Gabbana, to name a few.
As opposed to head to toe metallic outfits spotted on the runway, when we turn to street style, the trend has offered more wearable takes of the trend. Before you go full-on astronaut, we would advise you to try out a metallic accent including metallic skirts, pants, shoes and blazers, which are commonly sported metallic outfits on the streets. A word of caution: while the silver trend is more tangible than ever this season, it has the risk of looking cheap. So here are a few ways in which you can style the metallic trend.
1. Metallic Pants
Metallic pants are one of the easiest ways to add the trend to your everyday look and, you can never go wrong with a pair of chic metallic pants. Pair it with a solid top to ensure the pants grab all the attention. From a skin tight fit, to aline pants and even palazzo's, there's an option for everyone out there!
2. Fancy Feet
You can always add some glam to your colour block outfits with a pair of metallic booties. They break the monotony and instant add a glam factor to your OOTD. Perfect for a street style look or even for an evening party.
3. A Dress-y Affair
If you're someone who loves to experiment with fashion, then you can choose to go bold with the trend. Embrace a metallic dress and make heads turn. To tone down the look you can add a layer in the form of a jacket or cape.
4. Skirts? Yes Please!
From mini skirts to pleated midi skirts, metallics are sure to leave you awe-struck when it comes to these. A versatile piece in your wardrobe, these are easy to mix and match with separates. Pair your midi skirt with a slogan tee for a street style look or a formal top for an evening out. Style the mini skirt with a blazer for a formal look or chose to wear it with a printed top to keeping it casual.
5. Oversized Jackets
The best way to incorporate metallics during the winter is a jacket and that too, an oversized jacket. From puffer jackets, trench coats and bombers there's something for every occasion. If you don't wish to go full astronaut, the bomber and puffer jackets are a great option. A trench coat has the risk of looking tacky so be careful before you wear it!
There is a space-age style revival this season and shiny hues are big news. Take note from the above on how to style these pieces!
